Here are two medium sized cocobolo spoons that came out fairly well:
The shorter spoon is a bit more asymmetric than I prefer, but all my items are deliberately imperfect. Imperfect in the sense that I exert no effort toward factory shapes or perfect proportions. Under a microscope or critical eye, nothing I produce will be without symptoms of an object crafted by hand. And so be it, no other way.
Perfect symmetry aside, I do always strive for a shape pleasing to both the eye and hand. Balance and proportion is always a primary consideration throughout the crafting process.
The finish is unique with cocobolo, hardly requiring any special sauce after the final sanding phase due to having their own intrinsic oils which leave a naturally glossy and super smooth surface. Yet i still apply a compulsory coat of beeswax/oil and often burnish it in, aggressively to cause heat and friction.
The coat of beeswax can have a mildly deceptive effect, falsely suggesting that they will remain this way after heavy use. They won’t, but they will retain a remarkably nice look and can re-burnished easily.
I’ve had some unforeseen things come up, therefore will be a bit slower than originally expected in increasing the amount of available items. They’ll come, but not too many at once. Currently available items can be seen within the gallery and are marked in the captions with “For Sale”.
