I had a pretty gnarly chunk of cocobolo that was oddly shaped and partly mangled. While many things could have been made from it, I am still in spoon mode for now and elected to try my first short and stubby style spoon. Honestly, I did not approach it very seriously and now wish I had. A chunk of wood can be deceiving, and this one was masquerading as something even a fire might reject. But as usual, much potential waited behind the charred live edge and gouges. It could have been better and it could have been worse, but a functional spoon came of it and here it be:

The handle is pushing it a bit with its girth. Yet it makes sense in the hand. It imparts a sense of indestructibility… and short range. It measures 8.25 inches.

The other was also produced in a slightly detached mood, and I think this is reflected in the shape of the bowl which lacks a certain shape I tend to carve. Variation is good though, and it’s a nice spoon:

It measures 16.5 inches and is in the medium density range for cocobolo. Exceptionally well balanced, it may be also slightly pushing the parameters of an ideal spoon with its length.

Well, that’s two more for the growing pile of spoons that few seem interested in. I’ll keep ’em coming though — and one day, perhaps soon, they will be rare and among things difficult to obtain.
