Handmade Walnut Tobacco Pipe with Cocobolo Stem

My first two attempts at a walnut pipe produced functional results, with many little flaws. The first was a single piece pipe. The second was a two piece, with a cocobolo stem, but with a standard mortise tenon style that without a lathe, was probably futile. Below is the first and second attempt.

For the two piece version, I was compelled to switch to a tapered, army mount style, which worked but left it with a boring image. Not terrible though.

The third attempt was another two piece style, and I initiated the project with the army mount, or spigot style in mind. I put more effort into it this time and the results were a fine smoking, fair looking stout walnut pipe. The cocobolo stem could be improved, but this will always remain optional, being a two piece pipe.

The prior two pipes had smaller bowls, the logic being that walnut wouldn’t be ideal for longer smokes and might be prone to overheating. I also wanted them tailored for shorter smokes, suspecting they simply wouldn’t smoke well enough to desire a long session. I am glad I made the third version full sized, as none of these suspicions apply.
